The Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) has set up small bookcases in three neighbourhoods, which will be in place for one week, for people to take books for free, with the aim of promoting reading.

The three bookcases, which were set up at the three locations yesterday, will be there through Sunday.

The bureau announced details of the setting-up of the three bookcases, known as Pop-up Libraries, in a statement on Friday.

According to the statement, the three bookcases will be at the three locations during the second weeks of August, October and December, for seven days.

The three bookcases will be at the same three locations between October 7 and 13, after which they will run between December 9 and 15, according to the statement.

The three bookcases are now at Rotunda de Carlos da Maia (popularly known as Three Lamps), the sitting-out area outside the Lok Yeung Fa Yuen residential estate in Fai Chi Kei, and the pavement outside NOVA Mall in Taipa.

The statement said “residents can take one book from the bookcase for free each time”.

The statement underlined that the Pop-up Library initiative aims to promote reading in the community and the concept of “Reading Enriches Life”.

In addition, the statement said, the three Pop-up Libraries each also have a book collection slot for those to put books they no longer read into, with the aim of promoting the circulation of reading resources in the community.

The statement did not reveal the languages of the books at the three Pop-up Libraries.
