An exhibition entitled “The Way of Huang Tingjian – Exhibition of Calligraphic Documents” is currently on at Tap Seac Gallery, showcasing a variety of documents, collected by Huang Tingjian Memorial Hall (Xiushui County Museum), until September 15.
Huang Tingjian (1045-1105) was a Chinese calligrapher, painter and poet of the Song Dynasty (960-1279), according to Wikipedia. A statement recently provided by the Cultural Affairs Bureau (IC) added that Huang, who was born in Xiushui County, is the founder the Jiangxi School of Poetry and is “acclaimed as a legendary master in the history of Chinese calligraphy for his unique style and profound knowledge”.
Those visiting the free-admission exhibition can find rubbings of stele and cliff inscriptions, as well as replicas of Huang’s calligraphic works.
Aside from showcasing his poetry’s artistic achievements and cultural connotations, the exhibition also showcases Zen, Confucianism, incense art and filial piety in his calligraphy, according to the statement.
The exhibition, the statement said, aims to strengthen friendship, promote cultural exchanges and cooperation between Jiangxi and Macau, support Xiushui County’s rural revitalisation, and strengthen the promotion and heritage cultivation of traditional Chinese culture.
The exhibition is open daily from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m., including public holidays. Guided tours in Cantonese and Putonghua are offered at weekends throughout the exhibition’s run. More details can be found on
