The local observatory is considering hoisting the No.1 stand-by signal from tonight to tomorrow as Tropical Storm “Yagi” located east of the Philippines is forecast to be within 800 km of Macau.

The storm, according to the weather station, is forecast to enter the South China Sea in the middle of this week, and is likely to move across the northern part of the South China Sea when its intensity will gradually increase, with a chance of it becoming a strong typhoon.

However, the observatory said whether Yagi becomes a strong typhoon depends on the strength, path and circulation size of the storm after it enters the South China Sea.

On its website, the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) underlined that it is closely monitoring the track of Yagi, urging the public to pay attention to the bureau’s latest weather information.

Under the impact brought by the tropical storm’s outer subsiding air to Macau, the observatory predicted the weather today to be “extremely” hot, due to which thunderstorms and strong gusts may occur from tomorrow.

This graphic provided by the Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) at 9 p.m. yesterday shows the projected trajectory of the Tropical Storm Yagi moving westwards to the South China Sea.
