Macau's Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) downgraded Super Typhoon "Yagi" from Typhoon Signal No.8 to Strong Wind Signal No.3 at 2 p.m. today, but cautioned that showers and thunderstorms would continue to affect Macau for a while.

Apart from minor incident, the typhoon spared Macau.

Typhoon Signal No.8 remained hoisted between 10 p.m. last night and 2 p.m. today.

According to Civil Protection officials, two people were injured during Signal No.8, while 10 people sought shelter at the government's various emergency protection centres.  No major damage was reported.

Public bus and radio taxi services, which remained suspended during Signal No.8, have gradually resumed services. The three Macau-Taipa bridges and the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge have meanwhile been reopened to vehicular traffic, while Hong Kong-Macau ferry services have also been resumed.

Government offices reopened at 3:30 p.m., but banks and schools will stay closed today.

According to the local observatory, Super Typhoon Yagi was located about 360 km southwest of Macau at 3 p.m., when it was forecast to move west-northwest at around 15 km/h towards Guangdong's Leizhou Peninsula and Hainan Island.
