A 70-year-old local woman was cheated out of 25,000 patacas in Gongbei on Monday by two mainlanders who persuaded her to buy a “cure-all remedy”, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Ho Chan Nam said yesterday during a regular press briefing yesterday.
According to Ho, the victim was shopping in a market in Gongbei on Monday morning when she saw the suspects. The male suspect was “selling” the remedy to the female suspect, who told the victim that it could cure all diseases and that she was going to buy some.
The man then said he would sell them the purported panacea at a “cheap” price of 27,000 yuan (31,375 patacas). When the victim said she did not have so much money on her, the female suspect said she would pay for the medicine for her first and wait for her to return with the money.
