The statement noted that the joint lab will focus on the cognitive and brain-inspired intelligence technologies field, as well as “explore new cooperation mechanisms aimed at major tasks and goals and innovative models for integrating research and teaching”.

Moreover, the lab’s setting-up marks a “strategic partnership” for both institutions in the cognition and brain-inspired intelligence field, the statement said, using the lab to cooperate on the three key areas of talent cultivation, transfer and transformation, and scientific research. They will cooperate on joint PhD programmes, international industrial development exchanges and cooperation, shared research and technology platforms, as well as scientific research and applied technology development research in areas such as basic theories of artificial intelligence (AI) and brain cognition, the statement said.

The cooperation arrangement aims to “create a model for industry-academia collaboration in Hengqin and provide technological support for Macau’s economic diversification”, according to the statement.

An academic seminar on cognition and brain-inspired intelligence was also held on the same day, said the statement, which did not say when and where the seminar took place.
