A video clip of a number of people using electric wheelchairs on a roadway in Praça de Ferreira do Amaral (亞馬喇前地) circulated on social media platforms yesterday, in response to which the Public Security Police (PSP) noted that the 11 wheelchair users, 10 of them holding disability certificates, from the mainland have been fined.
The Public Security Police released a statement late last night, saying that the 11 road traffic law violators – four males and seven females in their fifties and sixties – told the police that “they were unfamiliar with Macau road conditions”.
The Public Security Police underlined in the statement that both wheelchair users and pedestrians should use pavements and pedestrian crossing facilities, urging wheelchair users to ensure their own safety and that of other road users by using the facilities in a law-abiding and safe manner.
