An exhibition entitled “New Horizons of Chinese Contemporary Art” is on at the Amagao Gallery in Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau hotel in Nape, showcasing the works of 17 artists from the mainland.

The free-admission exhibition, which kicked off on October 26, is presented by the hotel operator in conjunction with SOEMO Fine Arts, which marks its first exhibition in Macau, according to a recent Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau statement.

SOEMO Fine Arts, which has held various exhibitions across Hong Kong, the US, and Europe, was established by Dutchman Jareth Soemodihardjo in 2006. The statement added that it was one of the first foreigner-owned art galleries in the Song Zhuang Painters’ Village, which is “home to Beijing’s largest and most famous art community”.

Themed “Continuity and Innovation”, a statement provided at the gallery noted that the exhibition presents “how contemporary Chinese art honours traditional culture while expressing unique perspectives”, adding that contemporary techniques were used to re-imagine older classical themes while new media is also used to explore ancient motifs, the statement said.

The statement quoted Rutger Verschuren, Area Vice President, Macau and Hengqin Operations for Artyzen Hospitality Group and General Manager of Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau, as saying: “This event shines a spotlight on emerging artistic talents from mainland China, helping to introduce these gifted artists to a global audience.”

Meanwhile, SOEMO Fine Arts Curator Lucy Han was also quoted as saying: “I find the philosophy of both the hotel and the Macau gallery matching so well with mine – connecting the two sides of the world and encouraging exploration. I sincerely believe that people in Macau will like this exhibition.”

One can visit the gallery from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. It is closed on Mondays.

The statement did not mention when the exhibition will end.
