Filipino band Lola Amour* is set to perform at the upcoming “hush! Beach Concerts x Urban Yo~ga Wellfest 2024” this weekend at Hac Sa Beach in Coloane.
Lola Amour, a group of seven musicians who came together in high school, have turned their hobby into a professional endeavour. Their music, which blends elements of pop/rock with a touch of funk, defies a specific genre. Over the past seven years, the band has garnered popularity with their relatable lyrics and charismatic personalities. Their tracks “Fallen” and “Raining in Manila” have seen significant success, with the latter reaching #1 on digital streaming platforms in the Philippines and making waves internationally.
In an online interview with the Post earlier this week, the band members shared their excitement about the upcoming performance in Macau on Sunday. Drummer Raffy Perez expressed their intention to showcase their original Filipino music roots infused with modern influences, promising an unforgettable experience for the audience in terms of both music and production.
Saxophonist Jeff Abueg highlighted the unique use of horns in their music, a standout feature that distinguishes them from other Filipino artists. Their success, he noted, has been a gradual climb over 7-8 years, with certain tracks like “Pwede Ba” (“Can I”) and “Fallen” playing pivotal roles in their journey to wider recognition.
Trumpet player Angelo Mesina emphasised the band’s effort to blend each member’s influences and personalities into their sound, creating a unique and cohesive musical identity. Keyboardist David Yuhico added that despite differing ideas, the band finds a way to merge them into a distinct “Lola Amour” sound that resonates with their audience.
In crafting their setlist, the band aims to create a dynamic and engaging experience for their audience, starting with upbeat songs, transitioning to more mellow tunes, and building up the energy towards the end of the performance, Yuhico said.
Yuhico credited their success to their creative and supportive fan base, as well as their dedication to enhancing their live performances. Guitarist Zoe Gonzales mentioned their social media posts inviting fans to the event and expressed their enthusiasm for performing at the international music festival. They have prepared a special setlist combining new sounds with their classic hits, including “Fallen” and “Raining In Manila”, which they believe the live renditions would surpass their studio version.
