The 2025 MGM Macao International Regatta is slated to take place from January 8 to 12, with the event set to introduce the “World Match Racing Tour – Macao Match Cup” as one of its three main events, according to a Sports Bureau (ID) statement yesterday.
The statement said that the World Match Racing Tour – Macao Match Cup, which will have 12 teams competing, is “a special event recognised by World Sailing as a World Championship-level competition”. The statement added that the race is also the opening event of the 2025 season for the World Match Racing Tour, a key partner of the upcoming regatta and holds the ‘Special Event’ status granted by World Sailing. The statement added that the tour’s annual champion becomes the “World Champion”.
The two other main events are the “Lotus Cup (IRC)” and the “Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Cup (IRC)”, respectively having nine and 11 teams competing, according to the statement. Altogether, the regatta is expected to draw 270 athletes from about 22 countries and regions.
All events are set to take place in the waters south of both the Macau Science Centre (MSC) and Hac Sa Beach, the statement noted. Moreover, a fleet parade, a Family Fun Day and photography competition will also be held as ancillary activities for members of the public.
