Three local men have separately been arrested for drunk driving, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Wong Chi Weng said at a press conference yesterday.
In the first case, the local suspect surnamed Leong is in his twenties. He works as an estate agent.
At around 8 a.m. on Friday, the police found Leong sleeping in his car with the engine running in the Areia Preta district, with the front of his car damaged. A breathalyser test showed that his alcohol concentration was 1.19 grams of alcohol per litre of blood.
Police later discovered that Leong had crashed into a roadside steel pillar on Estrada do Canal dos Patos (鴨涌馬路) and then left the scene.
Under questioning, he confessed to having consumed alcohol in the mainland, returned to Macau in the early morning, drove his vehicle, collided with the pillar, and drove away due to “not knowing what to do”.
In the second and third instances, the suspects surnamed Lei and Chu, both in their thirties, were arrested on Friday for drunk driving. Chu, a salesman, and Lei, who claimed to be a businessman, had alcohol concentrations of 1.49 and 1.65 grams per litre of blood, respectively, as indicated by breathalyser tests.
The three suspects have been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP). Lei and Chu face drunk-driving charges, while Leong faces a charge of evasion of responsibility, according to Wong.
