President Xi Jinping has told the nation’s lawmakers that “Western countries headed by the United States have contained, encircled and suppressed China in an all-round way, bringing unprecedently severe challenges to China’s development,” Xinhua reported yesterday.
According to the national newswire, Xi made the remarks during a meeting on Monday afternoon with national political advisors from the China National Democratic Construction Association (CNDCA) and the All-China Federation of Industry and Commerce (ACFIC), who are attending the 14th National Committee of the Chinese People’s Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) in Beijing.
Xi, also general secretary of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and chairman of the Central Military Commission, also said that “the external environment for China’s development has changed drastically, with uncertainties and unexpected factors increasing remarkably.”
