The Macau Government Tourism Office (MGTO) announced yesterday that, in collaboration with the Public Security Police (PSP), it caught 17 suspected unlicensed tour guides last year.
Macau recorded 34.93 million visitor arrivals in 2024, the statement pointed out.
According to the statement, in total, 1,615 inspections were conducted at various entry and exit points, tourist attractions, and shopping areas, which included random checks of tour groups and monitoring of tourism professionals.
Last year, MGTO received 35 complaints and reports concerning illegal tour guide activities, the statement said.
All Macau tour guides must wear a valid tour guide badge while working, so that inspectors can easily identify them. Offenders illegally engaging in tour guide work in Macau face a fine ranging from 20,000 to 30,000 patacas.
