Macau's merchandise exports rose by 1.1 percent to 13.48 billion patacas year on year but its imports of goods dropped by 9.0 percent to 128.66 billion patacas last year, resulting in an external merchandise trade deficit of 115.18 billion patacas, the city's Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) has announced.
Imports accounted for 90.5 percent of Macau's external merchandise trade in 2024.
According to DSEC data released last week, domestic rexports dipped by 4.0 percent to 1.48 billion patacas last year, while re-exports grew by 1.8 percent to 12.0 billion patacas.
Fodd and beverage (F&B) imports, which accounted for 17.3 percent of total merchandise imports, decreased by 6.0 percent to 22.26 billion patacas. F&B imports continued to be Macau's number-one segment of merchandise imports, followed by garmets and footwear (12.88 billion patacas; -3.7 percent) and gold jewellery (10.26 billion patacas; - 29.0 percent).
Most of Macau's imports orignated from the Chinese mainland (30.7 percent), France (13.0 percent) and Italy (11.9 percent).
