The Public Security Police (PSP) reported yesterday that the Chinese New Year (CNY) holiday has brought a post-pandemic record high in tourist arrivals. On January 31 (the third day of CNY), All Macau’s checkpoints recorded a total of 219,000 entries and exits, surpassing the previous single-day record of 217,000 set on February 12, 2024 (also the third day of CNY).
The Public Security Police (PSP) said in a statement that on the fourth day of the Chinese New Year (February 1), the city’s checkpoints recorded a total of 736,000 entries and exits. Among these, 435,000 were entries and exits made by tourists, with 218,000 tourists entering Macau, which marked the second consecutive day that daily visitor arrivals exceeded 210,000, following the third day of the Chinese New Year (January 31).
According to the statement, most visitors entered Macau through the Barrier Gate, Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge and Hengqin checkpoints.
The statement noted that the Barrier Gate checkpoint accounted for the highest proportion of entries and exits, at 39.6 percent, followed by the Hong Kong-Zhuhai-Macau Bridge checkpoint, which stood at 23.4 percent, and the Hengqin checkpoint, which reached 17.1 percent, as well as the Qingmao pedestrian checkpoint, which amounted to 4.3 percent.
In terms of visitor demographics, mainlanders made up the largest group at 76.2 percent, followed by Hong Kong visitors, who made up 18.1 percent of the total, and visitors from China’s Taiwan region, who amounted to 1.3 percent, as well as foreign visitors, at only 4.4 percent.
The Public Security Police also reminded visitors to follow instructions from on-site officers, move in an orderly manner, and take care of children and elderly companions, adding that members of the public can check real-time updates on various checkpoints through the PSP’s website and mobile app, which provides real-time information on checkpoint footfall.
