The air was filled with smoke as fireworks, firecrackers and rockets in their various shapes and sizes popped and exploded around the designated area on Avenida Dr Sun Yat-Sen (.]٦h٪P$j٠(٨ٹ) in Nape yesterday.
The designated area for buying and selling firecrackers and fireworks in Taipa and the peninsula opened on the 28th of last month and ran through midnight yesterday, attracting Chinese New Year merrymakers to seize the final day.
While some bought whole boxes of their preferred kind of fireworks, others stocked up on various types and put them into bags or even on carts to let off later.
Groups of friends, families with young children and the elderly in tow, were brought together as they shared the joy of setting off firecrackers or firing off rockets and watching them sparkle, fly and explode into an array of colours, while others seemed thoroughly entertained by hand-held fireworks and other pyrotechnic products on sale this time.
For many in the area, it was obviously a five-day event not to miss and well worth sharing with others. And as it again, came to an end, many seemed to be eagerly looking forward to experiencing the joy of letting off another noisy firework display next year.
