The Environmental Protection Bureau (DSPA) has announced that electric cars accounted for 27 percent of all newly registered cars last year, while electric motorbikes accounted for 35 percent of all newly registered motorcycles last year.

According to the bureau, at the end of last year Macau had a total of 12,302 e-vehicles, comprising 6,480 e-cars, 1,239 electric heavy vehicles and 4,583 e-motorcycles, as reported by public broadcaster TDM yesterday.

The bureau released the figures in response to a query by TDM’s current affairs phone-in programme – Ou Mun Gwong Cheung, hosted by Ou Mun Tin Toi – the broadcaster’s Chinese-language radio channel.

According to TDM, the bureau pointed out that the number of electric motorcycles has increased by about 11.8 times compared to the period before the relevant subsidy scheme was launched in 2022.

In term of supporting facilities, according to the bureau, more than 2,200 and 600 parking spaces in the city’s public carparks are now equipped with charging point for cars and motorbikes respectively.

The bureau added that there are currently 49 public carparks providing 204 national standard sockets.

As cited by TDM, the Transport Bureau (DSAT) has noted that as of the end of last month, the city’s two public bus operators had put 929 new-energy vehicles (NEVs) into service, accounting for more than 92 percent of the total. As for taxis, there were 210 fully electric taxis in operation, accounting for about 11.9 percent of the total number of taxis, while about 86.2 percent were hybrid taxis.
