In order to foster a deeper understanding of Macau’s history and culture among local residents, especially the younger generation, the 9th edition of the “History and Culture Ambassador Training Programme”, co-organised by the Macao Foundation (FM) and its History and Culture Committee as well as Macau Historical Education Association, will open for enrolment from Monday to February 28, the foundation said in a statement yesterday.

According to the statement, this year’s programme will offer theoretical learning and study tours for secondary school students and members of the public, with the aim of gaining a deeper understanding of the content and value of Macau’s history and culture.

Since 2018, eight editions of this programme have been held, training nearly 1,000 ambassadors of history and culture, and the programme has been well received by schools and the general public, the statement said.

According to the statement, the contents of the course include Macau’s culture during the Ming and Qing dynasties, the social culture and development of modern Macau, the development of Macau’s cultural heritage and World Heritage sites, the creation of multimedia resources, and guided tours.

This year’s course will further enhance the contents and add a new course on Macau’s intangible cultural heritage, as well as arranging for the participants to go on a study tour after the course is over, and to teach them guided tours so as to learn more about Macau history and culture beyond theories and enhance their practical experience, so that they can pass on Macau’s history and culture to the next generation.

The programme prospectus can be downloaded from the website of the Macau Foundation’s History and Culture Committee https://www.fmac.org.mo/hc/. Those who are interested in participating in the programme can register online by logging on to the online registration system and filling in the relevant information free of charge.
