The city’s first-ever Senior Citizens Day may be celebrated annually on the same date as the traditional Chong Yeung Festival, Choi Sio Un, who heads the Social Solidarity Department of the Social Welfare Bureau (IAS), said yesterday.
Choi made the announcement when briefing reporters after attending a closed-door meeting of the government-appointed Senior Citizen Affairs Committee at the Education and Youth Affairs Bureau (DSEJ).
Choi said Senior Citizens Day in both the mainland and Taiwan is celebrated on Chong Yeung Festival as well. He said it would be convenient for residents to celebrate the day with their elderly family members as it is a public holiday.
