A local middle-aged man has lost 2,000 yuan (2,199 patacas) in a concert ticket scam, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Leng Kam Lon said in a regular press conference yesterday.

According to Leng, the victim saw a post on Douyin (a Chinese version of TikTok) about selling tickets for a concert on January 26 in the mainland. He was keen to attend the concert and contacted the seller on January 13, to buy two tickets.

The suspect told the victim that the “tickets” would cost 8,600 yuan in total and required him to transfer 2,000 yuan to his mainland bank account as a deposit and promised that he could receive the “tickets” after January 20. The victim trusted the suspect and transferred 2,000 yuan to the suspect’s mainland bank account on January 20. However, the victim could not reach the “seller” after paying 2,000 yuan as he was blocked by the scammer.

As the victim did not receive any tickets for the concert and was blocked by the fraudster, he suspected that he had been scammed and reported the case to the police on Monday.

The police are investigating the case.
