A takeaway, “Do Mao Mao Shop” (躲貓貓外賣店), was found to be infested with rodents yesterday, and its owners were ordered to suspend their business for deep cleaning and disinfection and to destroy all the live seafood and fresh food on the premises, the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement yesterday.
The statement said that IAM officers received a report yesterday saying that a takeaway in the northern district was infested with rodents.
Upon receiving the report, the bureau dispatched inspectors to the eatery located on Rua Sete do Bairro da Areia Preta (黑沙環第七街) immediately, and found that the shop had inadequate rodent prevention and control measures, while the food handling area was not properly installed with rodent-proof facilities and there were signs of a rodent infestation in the shop.
The bureau also requested the takeaway to remove its online platforms adding that the bureau would take legal action if there is any violation of the Food Safety Law.
The statement highlighted the responsibility of the food trade to draw up effective pest control plans, conduct regular inspections of pipes and other facilities and equipment, regularly clean and reduce the accumulation of debris on the premises, and properly store foodstuff with the aim of “effectively” preventing rodents and other pests from entering, hiding and reproducing there.
