A total of 16 cheongsams*, a tight-fitting Chinese formal woman’s dress, are on display at Albergue SCM’s Gallery A2 until March 16.

Albergue SCM** is located at Igreja de S. Lázaro (瘋堂斜巷).

Organised by the CAC – Círculo dos Amigos da Cultura de Macau (“Circle of the Friends of Macau’s Culture”) and presented by the Hong Kong Design Institute (HKDI), the exhibition is entitled “An Alluring Inheritance of Beauty: Chinese Cheongsam Exhibition” and features a variety of designs from different periods.

Among the exhibits are classic designs by traditional cheongsam master Ya Ka-man, along with modern interpretations, according to a statement on the CAC Facebook page. Aside from the physical exhibits, the cheongsams are also showcased virtually through projectors on screen, while one can also take part in the designated “Cheongsam Experience” spot for photo taking.

A statement displayed at the exhibition noted that with the “Hong Kong Cheongsam Making Technique” having been inscribed on The National List of Intangible Cultural Heritage in 2021, the exhibition aims to inspire future generations to take “this alluring inheritance of the Chinese cheongsam to its next exciting and significant milestone.

Those interested in visiting the exhibition may do so from 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Mondays and from noon to 8 p.m. the rest of the week.
