Integrated resort operator Sands China said in a recent statement that it has hosted a screening for the Chinese animated fantasy adventure film “Ne Zha 2” for 300 of its Sands Cares Ambassadors and their loved ones in appreciation of the volunteers’ “unwavering dedication to the local community over the years”.
The screening was held at BONA Cinema, which is located at the YOHO Treasure Islands Resorts World Hotel on the peninsula.
According to the statement, the popular “Ne Zha 2” is China’s first film to gross over 10 billion yuan at the box office. It took five years to complete and had a production team of over 4,000 animators from 138 animation companies across the mainland.
The film has broken multiple box-office records both inside and outside of China, according to Wikipedia, while the Sands China statement noted that the film is the first non-Hollywood film to break into the global box office top 10 for highest-grossing films.
The recent screening, the statement said, marked the film’s “first screening for volunteers in Macau”, with the event being appreciated by participants. It was organised to “bring positive impact to the community while promoting traditional Chinese culture and cultural pride”, according to the statement.
The Sands Cares Ambassador programme was launched in August 2009 and now has over 3,600 volunteers across the integrated resort operator’s properties, cumulatively contributing to over 310,000 hours of volunteers’ service, the statement noted.
