A 12-member delegation from the Women’s General Association of Macau (commonly known as Fu Luen in Cantonese) flew to New York from Hong Kong early Saturday morning to participate in the 69th Session of the United Nations (UN) Commission on the Status of Women (CSW69), with the aim of showcasing Macau’s progress in women’s rights and contribute to the 30th-Anniversary review of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action.

A statement provided by Fu Luen yesterday stated that, with the aim of playing a key role in global discussions regarding advancing gender equality and women’s empowerment, the CSW69 will be held at the UN Headquarters from today to March 21, comprising young representatives from Fu Luen and the Association of International Affairs Exchange and Training of Macau.

Delegation leader Cheong Kin Na, president of the Association of International Affairs Exchange and Training of Macao, the delegation will host parallel events in New York and Macau, with the New York’s event titled “Resilience and Transformation: The Path to Gender Equality and Empowerment in Macao Since the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action,” which will take place tomorrow, while the corresponding event in Macau on March 18 will connect virtually with the UN, fostering cross-border dialogue, according to the statement.

The statement went on to say that a highlight of the delegation’s participation, according to the statement, is its involvement in the Artisan Fair, where they will exhibit cultural art created by Macau’s young and elderly women, celebrating Macau’s unique blend of Chinese and multicultural influences, showcasing the entrepreneurial spirit of Macau women and promoting global cultural exchange.
