Lok Chan Nei, a councillor of the Taipa and Coloane Community Service Consultative Council, said yesterday that some requirements about veterinary hospitals and clinics in the consultation text of the Animal Disease Prevention and Veterinarian Bill were “unrealistic”.

Lok, who also heads the Women’s General Association of Macau’s Joyful Family Service Centre in Taipa, made the remarks during a meeting of the council at a community service centre run by the Civic and Municipal Affairs Bureau (IACM) in Taipa.

Lok said the government-drafted bill, which is under consultation, classifies veterinary medical centres as hospitals or clinics, while operations and hospitalisations would only be allowed in the former.
