About 500 single-parent families were receiving financial assistance from the government as of December last year, Lam Pui Seong, who heads the Community Service Coordination Division of the Social Welfare Bureau (IAS), said yesterday.

Lam made the remarks while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a press conference about a number of events to mark today’s International Women’s Day.

The events, to be held during the remainder of the month, are co-organised by the Macau General Union of Neighbourhood Associations (commonly known as Kai Fong) and Macanese welfare organisation Mothers’ Work (known as Obra das Mães in Portuguese). The press conference was held at Kai Fong’s headquarters in Toi San.
