Police nab 4 for 113 million yuan UnionPay fraud

Three local men and a mainlander were arrested this week for their alleged involvement in the illegal use of UnionPay cards by conducting bogus cash transactions for clients, amounting to 113.8 million yuan (131.8 million patacas), a Judiciary Police spokesperson (PJ) said yesterday.

According to the spokesperson, one of the locals, surnamed Chan, is 53 years old while the second suspect, surnamed Ng, is 25. The third suspect, surnamed Ieong, is 26 years old while the mainlander, surnamed Yu, is a 27-year-old non-resident worker.

The spokesperson said the police discovered in January that three pawnshops in Nape were involved in the fraudulent use of UnionPay cards.
