Macau Computer Society Director General Michael Chan Weng Kin said yesterday that poor service quality of free WiFi in public areas was not unique to Macau, adding that it was a common problem in many cities around the world. He urged the government to act as a coordinator rather than setting up a free WiFi network in the city by itself.
Chan made the remarks while speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a seminar about developing Macau into a smart city. The one-day seminar, organised by the Vocational Skills Training Centre run by the Macau Federation of Trade Unions (commonly known as Gung Luen), was held at the centre near the Barrier Gate border checkpoint.
The Commission of Audit (CA) slammed the government for failing to properly monitor and supervise its WiFi GO service as a number of WiFi GO service points in the city have been affected by poor connection quality, in a hard-hitting report released late last month.
