Xia Baolong, who heads both the Hong Kong and Macao Work Office (HKMWO) of the Communist Party of China (CPC) Central Committee and the State Council’s Hong Kong and Macao Affairs Office (HKMAO), will arrive in Macau today for a six-day working visit for “investigation and research purposes”, the Macau Government Information Bureau (GCS) announced in a statement yesterday.

The statement said that Xia’s fact-finding visit aims to enable him to gain a better understanding of Macau’s latest socioeconomic developments and the administration and governance exercised by the new-term Macau Special Administrative Region (MSAR) government.

The current local government headed by Chief Executive Sam Hou Fai took office on December 20 last year. This will be Xia’s first visit to Macau since Sam has been at the helm of the MSAR.

On behalf of the MSAR, the statement said, Sam has expressed his gratitude to the central authorities for its long-term care and support for Macau, warmly welcoming Xia to Macau for investigation and research purposes.

The statement said that the local government will make proper arrangements to ensure that Xia’s investigation and research tour will be a complete success.

Including his fact-finding trip ending on Tuesday, it will be the third consecutive year that Xia has paid an inspection visit to Macau, after he visited the city for four days in 2023 and paid another visit for seven days last year, both of which were also in May.
