Local test competitions for the 15th National Games, 12th National Games for Persons with Disabilities and the 9th National Special Olympic Games which will be jointly hosted by Guangdong, Hong Kong and Macau in November and December ended yesterday.
A statement by the Games’ local preparatory office said that the test competition was “a success” and “accomplished its objectives”.
To ensure the smooth running of the upcoming Games, the two-day men’s U18 5-a-side basketball test competitions for the Macau events took place at Tap Seac Sports Stadium this weekend, the first of five test competitions for the Macau event.
Macau will host five of the 15th National Games’ competitions. The five events to be hosted by Macau will comprise 3x3 basketball, men’s U18 5-a-side basketball, karate, table tennis, and women’s volleyball.
Deputy Head of the Preparatory Office for the 15th National Games Fu Si Na told reporters at the stadium yesterday that the Men’s U18 5-a-side basketball test competition followed those laid out by 15th National Games’ guidelines, including the team transportation, food safety, equipment and volunteers’ arrangements, which were part of the testing process. An estimated 1,500 spectators attended, and around 300 volunteers participated in the event, Fu said.
Fu added that the reception of the athletes, audio and equipment will be optimised for the upcoming test competitions, to ensure the smooth process of the 15th National Games late this year.
The Macau men’s U18 5-a-side basketball team captain Lei Cheong told reporters after the trial run that overall the game was satisfactory, including fast breaks, defence and rebounds, adding that the organiser’s arrangements were good, such as the changing rooms and training time.
The two-day event invited three teams from Guangdong Province, namely Jiangmen, Zhongshan and Zhuhai, with Macau making up the quartet. The two-day competition was won by Zhuhai, while Zhongshan came second and Macau third.
