GoldSmart officially opened at two locations on the peninsula yesterday afternoon, with the first batch of automated gold recycling machines in Macau and Hong Kong among its highlights.
The flagship store is located on Centro Comercial Praia Grande (南灣商業中心) and, in addition to gold recycling and gold and jewellery sales, features currency exchange services, a café and a showcase of works by contemporary artists. The second location, the GoldSmart Exclusive Shop, also opened yesterday and is located at L’Arc Macau hotel on Avenida 24 de Junho (城市日大馬路) in Nape.
According to a statement provided at the event, GoldSmart collaborated with Shenzhen-based Kinghood Group, which is one of the FORTUNE CHINA 500 companies, to introduce the first batch of the automated gold recycling machines in Macau and Hong Kong, streamlining the recycling process.
GoldSmart Chairman Yany Kwan Yan Chi (關恩賜) told the Post after yesterday’s ceremony that the gold trade has been around for countless years, with the machines offering something new.
On how it works, Kwan said that once putting your gold in the machine, which uses high precision sensors, the quality and weight of the gold will be analysed, showing the user its real-time prices.
Yesterday’s statement also noted that the machines, which remove the need for manual operation, will provide transparent quotes within minutes, with no hidden fees. The statement said that the machines use internationally compliant detection technology to ensure accurate and reliable results, with the entire recycling process recorded for user protection. Moreover, the service is not limited to specific gold brands or styles, processing all types of gold jewellery and bullion, according to the statement.
Kwan said that there are a total of nine machines in the first batch.
Lawmaker and gaming executive Angela Leong On Kei was among dozens of guests at the opening ceremony, which also included several celebrities from Hong Kong.
