The latest exhibition at Amagao Gallery kicked off last night, with around 50 artworks by 24 artists on display.

Titled “Portuguese Art • Creativity Dialogues” and held in celebration of Portugal Month, the exhibition gallery is located at Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau’s hotel lobby and features artworks, such as paintings, created by contemporary Portuguese artists. According to an exhibition statement provided at the gallery, each artist brings “a unique and innovative perspective on the current artistic landscape”.

In his speech at last night’s opening ceremony, Rutger Verschuren, Area Vice President, Macau and Hengqin for Artyzen Hospitality Group and General Manager of Artyzen Grand Lapa Macau, noted that the exhibition is called “Creativity Dialogues” for a reason, with each of the 50 exhibits finding “its own way to communicate with your sentiments and imagination, creating a level of curiosity and connection”.

Verschuren added: “As an urban resort, Artyzen Grand Lapa is deeply rooted in the East-meets-West heritage, and we are proud that we can find opportunities for our guests and our community to connect with Portugal’s culture through art”.

The exhibition also marks the third year of partnership between the hotel and Galeria 57 (Macau), which manages the gallery. Victor Marreiros, artist, designer and part owner of the gallery told the Post during yesterday’s opening ceremony that latest exhibition by Portuguese artists is also held as part of the celebrations of Portugal’s national day on June 10.

Aside from talking about the exhibition, Marreiros also spoke about hopes for the local community’s perspective on art, emphasising he thinks that locals should look into, appreciate and visit more exhibitions. Marreiros said he also hopes that the community can “open the window” to exploring more art from outside Macau while also caring for local artists, both which the gallery attempts to achieve.

Yesterday’s opening ceremony was officiated by several guests, among which were Consul-General of Portugal in Macau and Hong Kong Alexandre Leitão and Portuguese Orient Institute (IPOR) Director Patrícia Ribeiro.

Exhibitiongoers may visit the free-admission gallery from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. from Tuesdays to Sundays until June 29.
