The revised version of the government’s new Road Traffic Law bill, which is being reviewed by the legislature’s 1st Standing Committee, proposes that those who move a motorcycle that is legally parked by others in the street will face a fine of 1,500 patacas, lawmaker-cum-unionist Ella Lei Cheng I, who chairs the committee, said yesterday.
Lei briefed reporters after the committee held a closed-door meeting yesterday to review the bill, which was attended by government officials.
Lei quoted the officials as saying that the government received complaints from motorbike riders about their vehicles parked in street parking spaces having been moved by others to where parking is prohibited.
Consequently, the proposed fine aims to punish those who move a motorcycle legally parked by others in the street.
Meanwhile, according to Lei, the bill also proposes to increase the fine for those who park their vehicles within 10 metres of a bus stop, from the current 300 patacas to 900 patacas.
