Gongbei Customs has announced that its officers have caught a male attempting to smuggle 960 cigars from Macau to the Zhuhai at the Gongbei joint checkpoint, exceeding the maximum number of cigars that a traveller is permitted to carry when entering the mainland.
Gongbei Customs announced the case, which was detected last Saturday, in a statement yesterday.
Last Saturday night, customs officers at the Gongbei joint checkpoint intercepted the man and customs officers seized 960 cigars hidden in his backpack and a carrier bag, the statement said, which was in excess of the maximum allowed for the import and export of cigars.
Gongbei Customs reminded the public that tobacco products are restricted items for entry into the Chinese mainland. According to relevant regulations, frequent border crossers (those entering the mainland more than once within 15 days) are allowed a duty-free allowance of 40 cigarettes (including heated cigarettes), or two cigars, or 40 grams of pipe tobacco each time they enter the mainland.
