Guangdong, HK, Macau to co-host National Event on Environment Day 2026

The National Event on the Environment Day 2026* will be co-organised by Guangdong Province and the Hong Kong and Macau special administrative regions (SARs) for first time, the Ministry of Ecology and Environment (MEE) announced at the handover ceremony of the National Event on the Environment Day 2025 in Chongqing yesterday, according to a statement by the Environmental Protection Bureau (DSPA) yesterday.

The 2025 National Event on the Environment Day was held in the municipality.

The statement pointed out that the National Event on the Environment Day has become an important platform for learning, promoting, and implementing President Xi Jinping’s vision of ecological civilisation, showcasing achievements in promoting the nation’s development across the whole country, and mobilising people from all walks of life to participate in the promotion of ecological civilisation.

According to the statement, under the guidance of the ministry, the three places will learn from the experiences of previous organising cities, engage in effective collaboration and prepare diligently, striving to organise the National Event on the Environment Day 2026 in an “excellent” way and “full of character”.

In addition, the three places will take the opportunity to further deepen communication and cooperation in the ecological and environmental field, jointly build an integrated and innovative “beautiful bay area”, and provide more ecological support for transforming the Greater Bay Area (GBA) into a strategic fulcrum of new development patterns, and a leading region for national modernisation, according to the statement.
