Macau visitor arrivals rise 25.3 pct to 3.37 million in May

      Macau recorded 3.37 million visitor arrivals last month, a year-on-year growth of 25.3 percent, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced today. May’s daily average of arrivals amounted to 108,776.

According to a DSEC statement, same-day visitors accounted for 59.1 percent of the total number of visitor arrivals in May. The average stay for overnight visitors remained unchanged at 2.3 days.

Approximately 93.1 percent of May’s visitor arrivals were compatriots from the Chinese mainland (2.439 million), Hong Kong SAR (621,106), and Taiwan (78,828). Foreign visitors accounted for 6.9 percent of last month’s arrivals, with Filipinos (57,018) and South Koreans (41,765) making up the top two segments among the 232,211 foreign visitor arrivals.

Some 82.5 percent of May’s visitors arrived by land, 10.3 percent by sea, and 7.2 percent by air.

Meanwhile, in the first five months of the year, Macau recorded 16.53 million visitor arrivals, up by 15.2 percent year-on-year.
