A new single-day record was set on Saturday for the total number of inbound and outbound travellers across Macau, reaching 867,000 people, according to data announced by the Public Security Police (PSP) on their official WeChat account yesterday.
Tourists made up most of the figure at 39.1 percent, followed by Macau residents at 36.7 percent and non-resident workers (NRWs) at 21.6 percent, the PSP data noted. The number of visitors to Macau had also reached 174,000 that day, according to the statement.
Moreover, on the same day, the Barrier Gate checkpoint also reported close to 463,000 travellers, with the statement pointing out that this number represents the highest single-day record for that checkpoint in the past five years.
The statement pointed out that the entry and exit traffic at various checkpoints in Macau are expected to remain high with the approach of the Chinese New Year (CNY) holiday.
