Macau’s 147 hotels log 6 million guests in Jan-May, down 2.1 pct

A total of 6 million guests checked into Macau’ 147 hotels in the first five months of this year, a year-on-year decrease of 2.1 percent, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) announced yesterday. 

Guests’ average length of stay remained at 1.7 nights. 

In the first five months, hotels’ average guest room occupancy rate stood at 89.2 percent, up by 5.0 percentage points year-on-year. 

The number of available guest rooms stood at 45,000 at the end of May, a year-on-year decline of 3.7 percent. 

In May, the number of guests rose by 2.7 percent year-on-year to 1.228 million, including 902,000 guests from the Chinese mainland (up by 3.7 percent) and 100,000 foreign guests (up by 12.9 percent). The foreign guest segment included 27,000 South Koreans, 11,000 Indians, 9,000 Japanese and 6,000 Thais last month.
