Macau Customs Service officers raided a parallel-trading den in the peninsula’s northern district on Monday where they seized 840 kg of frozen chicken feet worth around 18,000 patacas in total.
According to a statement on Monday, on the afternoon of that day the customs officers caught a 62-year-old local female who ran the den and had hired parallel traders to smuggle frozen chicken feet from Macau to the mainland.
The suspect faces a fine in compliance with the relevant provisions listed in the External Trade Law, the statement said.
Moreover, the statement added, the suspect violated the Food Safety Law as the supposedly frozen chicken feet were actually stored merely at room temperature, adding that the Macau Customs Service has meanwhile transferred the case to the Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) for follow-up action.
Jiuzhou Customs seizes 10 boxes of charcoal
Meanwhile, Zhuhai’s Jiuzhou Customs has announced in a statement that its officers have seized 10 boxes of charcoal bound for overseas.
Jiuzhou Customs announced the case, which was detected on June 17, in a statement yesterday.
The statement noted that on June 17, during an inspection of a cross-border e-commerce export goods port, Jiuzhou Customs officers found 10 parcels declared as kitchenware suspicious. Upon opening the packaging, the boxes were found to contain charcoal weighing a total 178 kg in 10 boxes.
Jiuzhou Customs reminded the public that charcoal is categorised as a state-controlled resource product and is listed under the Chinese mainland’s Prohibited Export Goods Catalogue.
