The Macau Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) announced on its official website yesterday afternoon that a tropical cyclone would form within two days.
According to the announcement, a low-pressure area near the Philippines’ Luzon is expected to gradually develop into a tropical cyclone.
The observatory forecast that the low pressure would linger over the northeastern part of the South China Sea during the next one or two days.
The bureau said that due to the still uncertain path and intensity of the possible tropical cyclone, the local meteorologists would keep a close eye on it, adding that they may consider hoisting Standby Signal No.1.
Signal No.1 is the lowest of Macau’s tropical cyclone warning signals. It is hoisted when a tropical cyclone comes within 800 kilometres of Macau. Its higher warning typhoon signals are the No.3, No.8, No.9, and No.10.
The weather station urged the public to pay close attention to the latest weather updates.
