Public Service Police (PSP) spokeswoman Cheong Im Sim announced at a regular press conference yesterday that a male non-resident worker (NRW) from Nepal was detained for showing pornographic videos to three underage female students from the same secondary school.
The press conference was held at the Judiciary Police (PJ) headquarters in Zape.
Cheong identified the suspect as a 49-year-old Nepali surnamed Rana who told police that he works as a security guard.
According to Cheong, on Monday morning, the Public Security Police received a report from San Kio district, according to which a girl was walking to school on the pavement near Kiang Wu Hospital when the suspect suddenly approached her and displayed a pornographic video on his mobile phone.
Cheong said that follow-up investigations revealed that the victim had previously been harassed by the suspect in April. After the incident was reported to the school administration, two additional victims from the same institution came forward with corroborating accusations against the suspect.
According to Cheong, the two additional victims reported that the suspect had shown them explicit videos on three separate occasions in March and June. The three girls are classmates. Cheong merely said that the three victims are underage students, without revealing their respective ages. Neither did she disclose the name of the school.
However, the suspect denied all the allegations, she said.
Rana was transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP) yesterday, facing a pornography charge.
