Integrated resort operator Galaxy Entertainment Group (GEG) and the Macau Special Olympics (MSO) have recently kicked off their jointly organised “GEG Run with a Partner Training Programme” and launched the Fifth Anniversary Event Series with a ceremony held at Broadway Macau in Cotai.

The programme has been organised since 2021 “for members of the GEG Runner’s Club under the GEG Staff Social Club to conduct regular long-distance running training with MSO athletes and to jointly participate in sporting events such as the annual Galaxy Entertainment Macao International Marathon”, according to a statement from the company on Thursday.

The statement said that the recent ceremony featured a video presentation of accomplishments, a running warm-up exercise for guests and athletes, and a discussion session by GEG Runner’s Club members. New members were also welcomed.

MSO National Director Hetzer Siu Yu Hong was quoted by the statement as saying: “Over the past five years, many MSO athletes have surpassed their limits and successfully completed marathon events, thanks to the encouragement and companionship of GEG Runner’s Club members. The programme has certainly helped our athletes build greater confidence and courage”, highlighting the company’s support.

GEG Integrated Resort Services staff Kate Kwan, who has participated since the programme’s launch, was also quoted as saying: “Accompanying MSO athletes through training and completing the marathons has taught me that being a guide is not just about ‘accompaniment’, but also about ‘mutual support’.

Moreover, to celebrate the programme’s fifth anniversary, GEG and MSO expanded community outreach by visiting several schools, social service organisations, and GEG’s back-of-house areas to introduce the programme to nearly 1,500 teachers, students, social service members and users, and GEG staff, the statement said.
