A man from the mainland was arrested on Saturday for sexually harassing an underage girl in the street, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Lai In Hong said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Lai identified the suspect as a non-resident worker (NRW) surnamed Chen who is in his forties and works as a handyman. Lai did not reveal the girl’s age, merely saying that she is underage.
According to Lai, the police received a report on Friday from a local who said that his underage daughter had been approached by a man while walking alone to her tutorial centre on Avenida do General Castelo Branco (白朗古將軍大馬路). The man touched her face and hips, kissed her on the face and lips, and threatened her by telling her not to tell her family. After leaving the scene, the victim, feeling very frightened, told the staff at the centre about the harassment, who then contacted her parents to report the case to the police.
Through citywide CCTV surveillance, the police identified Chen as the suspect and apprehended him in his flat in the northern district.
Under questioning, Chen admitted to sexually harassing the victim.
Chen has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a charge of sexually harassing a child.
