In response to Macau’s first locally contracted dengue fever* case this year, which was confirmed on Saturday and whose patient lives near Rua do Almirante Sérgio (海邊新街) in the Inner Harbour area, the Health Bureau (SSM) urged residents suspecting that they are experiencing symptoms of dengue fever to seek medical attention as soon as possible, warning that especially those living in the areas between Mercado Municipal do Patane (沙梨頭街市) and Auto-Silo Pak Lok (柏港停車場) should be on guard.
Meanwhile, the bureau has also urged all local medical institutions to be on alert, if suspected cases of dengue fever are detected, underlining that it is mandatory to report any such cases to the bureau, according to the statement.
According to the statement, if possible symptoms appear, including fever, headaches, nausea and muscle and joint pain, residents should seek medical attention right away.
The statement pointed out that the SSM Public Health Laboratory provides dengue fever testing services to all medical institutions for free.
Moreover, the Health Bureau urged the public to remove stagnant water in and around workplaces and residential areas, to install mosquito nets on doors and windows, to use air conditioning, and to wear light-coloured, long-sleeved clothing and trousers when walking outdoors, according to the statement.
