A local woman was arrested on Friday for theft by finding after stealing a smartphone worth 11,000 patacas, Public Security Police (PSP) spokesman Cheong Im Sim said during a regular press conference yesterday.
Cheong identified the suspect as a woman surnamed Lei who told the police that she is a handywoman.
According to Cheong, the Public Security Police (PSP) received a report last Tuesday that a local man realised that he had lost his phone after he got in a vehicle at Rua do Progresso (永添街) in Areia Preta district last Monday night, and when the GPS tracking showed the phone’s last known location in Taipa, the owner suspected it had been picked up by someone. He then filed a police report.
Cheong said that PSP officers identified the suspect Lei through CCTV footage, which captured her picking up the victim’s lost mobile phone at the exact location it had been dropped. Lei was intercepted on Rua de Xangai (上海街) in Zape last Friday afternoon but denied the allegations.
Lei has been transferred to the Public Prosecutions Office (MP), facing a charge of theft by finding.
