Macau’s observatory announced earlier this afternoon that it will lower the maximum Tropical Cyclone Signal No. 10 to No.8 at 5 p.m., as Typhoon “Wipha” was moving away from the city and locally the storm was expected to weaken gradually.
The Macau Meteorological and Geophysical Bureau (SMG) had hoisted Signal No.10 – the highest of Macau’s five-level tropical cyclone warning signal system, at 12:30 p.m. today, after it had hoisted Signal No.8 at 4 a.m. and Signal No.9 at 11 a.m.
As of 3 p.m., Typhoon "Wipha" was estimated to be about 40 km southwest of Macau, the bureau said, adding that the typhoon was forecast to move West at around 22km/h.
As of 3:30 p.m., no serious injuries or major damage had been reported. All ferry, bus and other public transport services remain suspended.
