The Municipal Affairs Bureau (IAM) said in a statement yesterday that its drainage workers were sent on Monday night to unclog the drains of a restaurant at Kat Cheong Bdlg. in Rua Dois do Bairro Iao Hon, which has been listed as a Red Code Zone due to confirmed COVID-19 cases there.
The statement noted that the bureau received a call pointing out that the drains of the restaurant were blocked and that the sewage was in backflow. Therefore, the statement added, drainage workers wearing protective gear, such as anti-epidemic protective clothing, face shields and KN95 facemasks, were sent to inspect and clean the drains in the Red Code Zone overnight.
The term “Red Code Zone” denotes locked-down buildings and areas.
According to the statement, the drainage workers found that the backflow of sewage was mainly caused by the blocked internal drains of the restaurant, so they opened the covers of the drains in the nearby streets and used sewer robotics and tools to unclog and clear the drains. The statement added that the problem of sewage backflow was preliminary solved.
Moreover, the bureau urged the restaurant to check and clean its grease traps regularly, as well as to arrange to get the internal drains unclogged, so as to fully solve the issue.
Meanwhile, the bureau said in the statement that the drainage workers also cleared the drains in the nearby streets to ensure smooth drainage, so as to prevent the drains getting blocked, reducing the risk of the spreading of COVID-19 in the community.
The statement noted that the surrounding streets were cleaned and disinfected after the drainage clearance work.
