Man tries to change HK$300,000 with play money: police

A man from the mainland was arrested on Tuesday for trying to scam a money changer with play money in Cotai, Judiciary Police (PJ) spokesman Ho Chan Nam said during a special press conference in Zape yesterday.

Ho said that the suspect surnamed Huang, 25, works in a hotel while the victim is a money changer who is also from the mainland.

According to Ho, Huang told the victim that he wanted to exchange HK$300,000 on Monday morning in a resort-hotel in Cotai. The victim agreed to give Huang 243,000 yuan for the HK$300,000. The victim transferred 3,000 yuan to the suspect’s bank account on the mainland to prove that the transaction was valid.
