Contemporary artist Cai Guo-Qiang and his custom-developed AI creation cAI™ have launched their new exhibition “cAI™ Lab 2.0 - Is It Your Gaze that Meets Mine, or Mine that Seeks Yours?” at MGM MACAU’s Fantasy Box in Nape.

The free-admission exhibition is presented by the artist in partnership with integrated resort operator MGM. According to a recent statement on MGM’s website, this represents the AI’s first artist residency following its 2024 debut exhibition “Soul Scan”.

The exhibition, which opened on Saturday, centres around the “One AI, One Show” concept featuring the “Firework Function” system. The statement noted this interactive element processes visitor responses to generate unique digital firework displays, with input from over 80,000 previous contributors.

Another key component allows visitors to engage in a private conversation with cAI™ and receive a personalised poem through the cAI™ Hotline phone booth.

The main installation analyses visitors through camera systems to produce real-time digital firework displays based on perceived emotions and characteristics. According to the statement, this creates what the artist describes as a “mutual gaze” between human and machine.

Additional elements include the cAI™ Observational Corridor and Daytime Fireworks Collaboration installations, along with documentary videos tracing the AI’s development, according to an exhibition statement at the venue.

The exhibition will run through September 22 at MGM MACAU’s Fantasy Box on Level 2. Opening hours are from noon to 7 p.m. on weekdays and from 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends. Complimentary guided tours in Cantonese or Putonghua are provided at weekends at 4 p.m., with English tours available by advance reservation.

The exhibition represents part of the ongoing “Art Macao: Macao International Art Biennale 2025”. For additional details, one may visit the Art Macao website www.artmacao.mo or contact 8802 3833.
