Macau recorded 19.2 million visitor arrivals in the first half of the year, up by 14.9 percent year-on-year, the Statistics and Census Bureau (DSEC) said yesterday.
Same-day visitors (11.1 million) and overnight visitors (8.0 million) rose by 25.8 percent and 2.6 percent respectively.
Visitors’ cumulative average length of stay dropped by 0.1 day year-on-year to 1.1 days, due to the growth in the proportion of same-day visitors in the total number of visitors, the bureau underlined.
The average duration of stay for same-day visitors (0.2 day) and overnight visitors (2.3 days) both remained unchanged year-on-year.
Visitors from the Chinese mainland rose by 19.3 percent year-on-year to 13.7 million in the first six months, accounting for 71.6 percent of all visitor arrivals.
Visitors from the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region grew by 1.1 percent to 3.6 million, while those from China’s Taiwan region increased by 14.0 percent year-on-year to 461,735.
Foreign visitors totalled 1.3 million in the first half of the year, up by 14.8 percent year-on-year, accounting for nearly 7.0 percent of the total number of visitor arrivals.
South Koreans (282,151) and Filipinos (273,715) made up the two major foreign visitor segments in the first six months.
In June, the number of visitor arrivals rose by 13.3 percent year-on-year to 2.89 million.
Macau’s annual visitor arrival record stands at 39.4 million, which was achieved in pre-pandemic 2019.
